Sr Risk Analyst PayPal

Job Location: San Jose, CA
The Risk FP&A team works closely with Global Risk Management to analyze business performance, design and develop analytical insights, assess financial outcomes of business investments and set organization’s financial goals. This role is a highly visible individual contributor role - responsible for delivery of detailed diagnostics, analytics and predictive algorithms for managing and forecasting transaction losses. This position entails supporting the Loss Forecasting teams with timely and credible insights into loss trends, loss pressures and segment level analysis.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Build and validate financial forecasting models, provide analytic support, and develop new statistical forecasting criteria and/or techniques
· Lead and manage the design and optimization of predictive algorithms and / or processes using advanced statistical / mathematical forecasting approaches
· Lead diagnostics and root-cause issues through data mining and statistical modeling techniques. Ensure statistical methodologies are sound and provide fact based interpretation of business performance
· Research, analyze and triangulate information on various loss trends to determine significance, assess implications and provide analysis with recommended actions
· Build a comprehensive catalog of internal / external business drivers that can be implemented within analytical frameworks and made available to users
· Design, lead, and execute analysis and effectively communicate insights. Analyst will be comfortable making controversial recommendations to senior audiences
· Articulate and present analytic case studies in a cohesive, clear and actionable format
· Closely work with Risk BU, IT, Engineering and other data/system providers to enhance systems, trouble-shoot data issues, etc.

Job Requirements



    • · Master’s in Mathematics, Statistics, Financial Engineering or equivalent is desired. MBA is preferred
      · 8-10 years of post-college working experience within a Data-Mining, Quantitative Research, Statistical Modeling or Analytics organization·

    • Proven experience in employing mathematical, statistical, data mining, and machine learning algorithms on real world problems


  • · Creative problem solver, analytic thinker, and quick learner. Strong conceptual and creative problem-solving skills; ability to work with considerable ambiguity; ability to learn new and complex concepts quickly. Relentlessly resourceful and scrappy

  • · Required technical skills: MS Excel (with VBA), Teradata SQL, SAS, programming and scripting language such as Python or Perl. Working knowledge of Unix, Map-Reduce, Hive, R, Pi g is preferred

  • · A great communicator, strong project management skills, and superb attention to details
